For the Love of George Gross

George Gross is an illustration art hero. His detective magazine paintings, in particular, ooze with pulpy fun. This cover painting is no exception. Enjoy!

  1. I'm with 100%, Astrid! The covers George Gross did for these detective mags and sleazy digests from 1948-52 are simply amazing! I was lucky enough to visit George twice in the 1990's and at first he was sort of embarrassed by this work, but when I told him how great it was and how many people were nuts about he changed his mind and I helped him build a binder of all the covers I had.
I love all the other pulp and paperback artists, but Gross is #1!

  2. That's awesome that you were able to convey to Gross just how great he was. I'm glad he knew how appreciated he was. Coz, I think I've bought some stuff from you on eBay as well. Great items!
